# Members and roles

## Give each teammate the right access

Project members have a role: **Owner**, **Editor** or **Viewer**. Roles belong to a project, so someone can edit one project and only view another.

For a client website, make the delivery team editors and invite the client as a viewer to follow progress.

| Role | What it is for |
| --- | --- |
| Owner | Owns the project and manages its members and project access. |
| Editor | Creates and edits work in the project. |
| Viewer | Reads project work without editing it. |

## Manage project members

1. As the owner, open the project's **Settings**.
2. Choose **Members**. You can see existing members and pending invitations.

3. Use the role selector beside a teammate to choose **Editor** or **Viewer**. The change saves when you choose it.
4. To remove someone, click **Remove member** on their row and confirm **Remove**.

## Tips and common mistakes

- Start with Viewer when someone only needs to follow progress.
- An invitation is pending until the recipient accepts it. It is not an active membership yet.
- The owner row does not have the role selector shown for other members.
- Removing someone ends their membership. For public projects, a person the owner removed needs a new invitation to return as a member.
