# Telegram and Slack

## Send updates where your team talks

Sprintree can reach you in chat in two ways. A **personal** Telegram link sends you messages about things addressed to you. A **project** connection posts a shared feed of new, finished and blocked work to a Telegram group or a Slack channel.

Both are available only when your server has the integration turned on. If you do not see them in Settings, the server owner has not enabled them.

## Why and when you want it

- You use an AI agent and want its questions on your phone. Link Telegram and you answer a question with one tap. See [Agent questions](https://sprintree.com/docs/agent-questions).
- Your team lives in Slack and wants to see finished work without opening Sprintree. Connect a channel.
- You want a quiet morning summary of what is due, with no other noise.

## Link your personal Telegram

1. Open **Settings**, then **Telegram**.
2. Press **Link Telegram**. Telegram opens. Press **Start**, then **Link**. The link works for 10 minutes.
3. Come back to Sprintree. The section now shows your Telegram name with a **Connected** badge.

Then choose what reaches you under **Send me a message when**:

- Someone mentions you, an issue is assigned to you, someone replies to your comment, or your review is requested (on by default).
- A comment, a status change or an update on an issue you follow, or a new issue in a project you follow (off by default).
- **Questions for you**, which is always on and cannot be turned off. This is how an agent's question reaches you.

Messages have buttons. You can assign an issue to yourself, change its status, comment or snooze, all from Telegram. In any Telegram chat, type `@` and the bot's name to search your issues and send one as a card.

Turn on **Morning summary** for one message a day with what is due, waiting for your review, newly assigned and unread mentions. Pick the hour under **Send it at**, from 05:00 to 11:00 in your time zone. Nothing is sent when there is nothing to report. Use **Pause messages** to stop everything for now.

To disconnect, press **Unlink** and confirm. Messages stop and the buttons in old messages no longer work.

## Connect a project to a Telegram group

You need edit access to the project, and your personal Telegram must be linked first. Add the bot to the group as yourself, not as an anonymous admin.

1. Open the project, then **Settings**, then **Integrations**.
2. In the **Telegram** card, press **Connect a Telegram group**.
3. Telegram opens. Pick the group and add the bot.
4. Sprintree shows **Group** with the group name. Under **Post when**, choose the events. Nothing is posted until you pick at least one.

If the group has topics, press **Create topic** to post into its own topic, or type `/here` followed by the project key inside a topic. Press **Send test message** to check the setup.

In the group, the bot answers `/new`, `/my`, `/issue` and `/search`, and shows link previews.

## Connect a project to a Slack channel

1. Open the project, then **Settings**, then **Integrations**.
2. In the **Slack** card, press **Connect Slack** and authorize the connection.
3. Pick a **Channel**. For a private channel, invite **@Sprintree** to it first.
4. Under **Post when**, choose the events.

Posts are batched so the channel stays quiet. Press **Send test** to check it.

## What gets posted

For both Telegram groups and Slack, you choose from these events: an issue is created, an issue is moved to done, an issue becomes blocked, and someone is mentioned in a comment.

Posts can contain issue keys, titles, people's names and status names. They never include comment text or descriptions. **Include issue titles** is on by default. Turn it off to post only issue keys.

## Who can connect and disconnect

Only people with edit access to the project can connect, change or disconnect a group or channel. Viewers see "Not connected." Press **Disconnect** in the card to stop posting. For Telegram, the bot stays in the group until you remove it there. Personal Telegram and project posting are separate connections, so unlinking one does not affect the other.

## Tips and common mistakes

> [!WARNING]
> Everyone in the group or channel can read what Sprintree posts there, including people who are not in the project. Turn off **Include issue titles** if titles are sensitive.

- Making the bot a group admin also enables link previews and topics.
- A Slack connection posts events that happen after you choose the channel.
- If posting stops, the card shows **Stopped** and a message. Press **Reconnect** or **Resume** as offered. If Slack access was revoked, connect Slack again.
- If you blocked the bot in Telegram, unblock it and press Start. Until then no messages arrive.
