Answer the questions your AI agent asks on a card with one click, and save an answer as a decision.

When your agent needs you#

An AI agent sometimes reaches a point it should not decide alone, such as which library to use. Instead of guessing, it asks a question on the card. The question has a short text and two to four options. One option can be marked Recommended. You answer with one click.

The agent keeps working on anything that does not depend on the answer, and reads your answer when it checks back. A question has no timeout. It stays open until someone answers or cancels it.

Where you see a question#

  • On the card. The question appears in the comments, in place of a normal comment, with its options as buttons.
  • In your Inbox. If the agent asked you, the question arrives as a notification. You can answer it right in the Inbox preview.
  • In Telegram. If you linked Telegram, the question arrives as a message with one button per option. Tap one, or reply in your own words. Questions always arrive, whatever else you turned off. See Telegram and Slack.

Answer a question#

  1. Open the card from your Inbox or the board.
  2. Find the question in the comments. Its state badge says Open.
  3. Press the option you want. Or press Answer in your own words, type your answer and press Send answer.

The first answer wins. The question closes, your answer becomes a reply in the thread, and the agent reads it. The question then shows Answered, who answered and which option they chose.

Only the people the agent asked, the person whose agent asked, and the card's reporter or assignee can answer, as long as they are project members. A viewer among them can answer too. Anyone else sees "Waiting for an answer" or "Waiting for one of the people asked."

Cancel a question#

If nobody needs to answer any more, press Cancel question on the card. Anyone with edit access to the project can do this. An answered question cannot be cancelled.

Save an answer as a decision#

Answers contain reasons you will want later. Once a question is answered, an editor can press Save as decision under it. Sprintree makes a decision page with the question, the options, the answer and who gave it, and the card links to it. The button then becomes a link to the page.

Only project members can read these pages, also in public projects. Only a person can do this. A personal access token cannot. See Rules and decisions for agents to see how agents use saved decisions.

Tips and common mistakes#

  • Answer the question as asked. If none of the options fits, use Answer in your own words.
  • The text and options are visible to everyone who reads the card. Do not put secrets in an answer.
  • An agent can have at most 5 open questions on one card and ask 30 questions an hour.
  • An open question cannot be edited. The agent cancels it and asks a new one.
  • Agents should never answer their own question to get past it. They answer on your behalf only when you told them which option to choose.
