Getting started#
What should I create first?#
Create a project, then add a task for one concrete piece of work. Open the Board to follow its progress. See Quick start.
What is the difference between an epic, a story and a task?#
An epic groups a larger goal. A story groups a smaller outcome within it. A task is a piece of work you can carry out. See Core ideas.
Should I use the Board or the List?#
Use the Board to follow work through statuses. Use List and filters when you want rows you can scan and narrow down.
Can I choose which view opens by default?#
Yes. Account Settings has a Default project view choice under General preferences. See Settings and preferences.
Is Sprintree a Jira alternative?#
Sprintree is a smaller issue tracker for solo developers and small teams, with a board, cycles, pages and AI agents that work in it over MCP. There is no Jira import, but an AI agent can recreate your cards for you. See A simple Jira alternative for small teams.
Working with a team#
How do I invite someone?#
As the owner, open project Settings, choose Members, enter their email address and click Invite. They must accept before joining. See Invitations.
Why can I read cards but not edit them?#
You may have Viewer access or be visiting a public project. Ask the project owner for Editor access if you need to make changes. See Members and roles.
Does Public let people without an account read everything?#
Guest access is a separate set of choices. The owner chooses which pages, issues, comments and names guests may read. See Public projects.
What happens if I invite someone to a private project?#
Sprintree asks before changing it to Shared. Shared projects are visible to invited members. See Invitations.
Planning and project knowledge#
How do I plan a short period of work?#
Use a cycle to group work for a date range. Use commitments to agree what you intend to deliver.
Where should I put a brief or instructions?#
Use Pages for documents that belong to the project. Keep details specific to one card in its description.
How do I keep rules and decisions for an AI assistant?#
Mark pages as Rule or Decision in the Memory Drawer. Connect the assistant through MCP to use project context. See Rules and decisions for agents.
Updates and connections#
How do I stop an update filling my Inbox?#
Mark it Done when you have handled it, or Snooze it to return later. Optional email has separate settings. See Notifications.
Can Sprintree send updates to team chat?#
Yes, when enabled on your server. Project integrations support Telegram groups and Slack channels. Personal Telegram notifications are separate. See Telegram and Slack.
Do I need an access token for every AI assistant?#
No. A client that supports OAuth can ask you to authorize it directly. Use a personal access token when the tool specifically needs one. See Connect an AI agent.
What can an AI agent do in Sprintree?#
It can read and create cards, move statuses, comment results, follow your project rules and ask you questions. It can do only what you can. See Work with AI agents.
What happens when my agent is stuck?#
It asks a question on the card with two to four options. You answer with one click, in the Inbox or in Telegram. See Agent questions.
How do I see what my agent did?#
Open the card and read the Work section. It shows the checks, commits and a summary the agent reported. See Work records.
Can I give my agent a command from a comment?#
Yes, in Claude Code. Set up live events, turn commands on with /sprintree:commands on in the terminal (they are off by default), then write /claude and your instruction in a card comment. See Live events.
Your account#
I can't sign in. What can I do?#
Sprintree has no password: you sign in to your account with a link or a six-digit code sent to your e-mail. The most common problem is an e-mail that does not arrive, so check your spam or junk folder, then press Resend (it unlocks after 30 seconds). Only the code in the newest e-mail works. A link from an earlier e-mail still works until it expires. This is how links and codes behave:
- Links and codes expire after 15 minutes and work once.
- Opening the link on another device? Enter the six-digit code on the sign-in page instead.
- If the sign-in page shows a Continue with ... button, you can use it. Use the e-mail address of your Sprintree account. A different address starts a new account.
- If Sprintree asks you to sign in with the e-mail link first, do that, then connect the provider under Sign-in & security in Settings.
- "Too many sign-in requests" means you asked for too many e-mails. Wait a few minutes, or use the link from the e-mail you already have.
See Settings and preferences for your connected sign-in accounts.
How do I sign out on every device?#
Open Settings, go to Sign-in & security and press Sign out everywhere. Every browser and device is signed out, this one too. See Settings and preferences.
Can I export my data?#
Yes. In Settings, open Danger zone and press Export as Markdown or Export as JSON. See Settings and preferences.
